Picture This: Revelation 4:1-11

Revelation 4 describes the setting of God's throne, the effects that are displayed, and the players who participate in giving God eternal praise.

Come with John as he is led into heaven by a heavenly being.

1. There is a throne with someone sitting on it. It must be God!

2. The One sitting on the throne radiates light like a brilliant gemstone--like Jasper and Carnelian. Below are several colors of Jasper. Jasper is an opaque and fine grained variety of Chalcedony. It is found in all colors including: red, brown, pink, yellow, green, grey/white and shades of blue and purple.

3. The glow of an emerald encircles the throne. Emerald comes in a variety of colors, including the two shown below.

4. Twenty-four elders sitting upon their thrones surround God's throne. We're not told whether they are perfectly spaced apart from each other, or just randomly sprinkled around God's throne.

5. The elders are clothed in white with gold crowns on their heads.

6. Flashes of lightening and peals of thunder can be seen and heard emitting from God's throne.

7. In front of God's throne are seven burning torches.

8. In front of God's throne is a shinning sea of glass, sparkling like crystal.

9. In the center and around God's throne are four living beings covered with eyes all over their bodies. One looks sort of like a lion, another second like an ox, the third has a face that resembles that of a human being, and the fourth is sort of like an eagle. They all have six wings each and even their wings are covered with eyes.

10. Day and night the four living creatures keep saying, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, Almighty--the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.

11. Whenever the four beings give glory to God, the twenty-four elders fall down and worship God who is seated on the throne. As they do, they lay their crowns before the throne and exclaim, "You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased."
