Text: Jn. 14:1-6
Introduction: Fathers Day and Communion
A. Jn. 14:1-6 – Analysis of these verses (The context is knowing the Father; understanding the Father; Trusting the Father) Is it possible that we don’t really trust the Father to do what He says He will do? Is it possible that we don’t really EXPECT the Father to do what he says He can do?
1. Jesus give this beautiful promise(vs. 1-3); about His return… and His knowledge of the Father’s house.
2. Then says… “You know the Way”.
3. Thomas said. “We haven’t any idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?” TLB
4. Jesus response is that… I am the Way”.  He was saying, “If you keep your eyes and focus on me… you will
a. See things that have been hidden from you (i.e. about the Father, and His house; see glimpses of glory by exercising the eye of faith). Is that true? (Jer. 33:3; Ps. 32:8; 2 Ki. 6 ).
b. Discover where I draw my strength power and inspiration from.
Jn 5:30 – I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me. NKJV
Jn 8:28-29 – Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things. 29 And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.” NKJV
Part of the promise is “I would have told you” (vs. 2); I would have revealed it to you (Spiritual things are spiritually discerned (1 Cor. 2:14).
Jn. 14:1-6 – If you want to know him you have to know me.
Communion is the key – communion with Him – what the emblems mean = communion
B. Methods of Communion between Jesus and the Father (What was Jesus like)
1. Prayer
2. Meditation
3. Song – Mt 26:30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. KJV
Image of the Divine – a Reflection of Him.
Jesus carried our His Father’s will; which means He sought to find out the Father’s will and then found ways to carry it out
The Bible – the revealed will of God and Jesus is the Word made flesh
Dwell in me and I in Him “Dwelling” in Him. Spending time alone with him. Some are uncomfortable spending time alone. In the stillness of the night. What do you do in the private time?
Conclusion
We should be a good reflection of the divine
Can others see Jesus in the reflection that your giving off?
Let this mind be in you Phil 2:5-8
If you have seen me, you have seen the Father.
